Who discovered the Adirondack Mountains?

As far as the history records go, the first white man to discover the Adirondack Mountains was Samuel De Champlain.

The Story Behind His Discovery

In 1608, Champlain founded a settlement in Quebec, Canada where he spent the winter. It was during that season that he heard stories from Algonquin Indians about a dangerous land occupied by the Iroquois. He became very interested, intrigued, and eager to see those lands for himself! In the Spring of 1609, Champlain with a group of Indian guides and followers, sailed up the St. Lawrence River and founded the lake that now carries his name, Lake Champlain. He came in contact with angry Iroquois and an attack took place for the claim of the lands. Champlain had an advantage, however. He used the new technological advanced weapon, otherwise known as the gun. He took down 2 of the Iroquois chiefs and eventually the Iroquois fled.

7th grade explorers

Now, just like Champlain discovered and conquered the Adirondack Mountains, you are going to plan a little expedition of your own where you discover the types of animals that inhabit the Adirondack Mountains. Can you think of any animals that you will want to study? I want you to think like explorers and imagine what kinds of animals live in the Mountain Regions.
